Travel Pants (Trousers!), Restos, Music
Let's Do This!
Nope, not wearing any of these pants but I am travelling so it sort of counts?
Best Travel Pants
I realize this topic will be extremely boring for most people - but for a niche few out there it may be fascinating.
You can skip and head straight to the restaurants if you are already snoozing.
What are travel pants? I realized that this definitely means different things to everyone. Some people are looking for plush, cozy pants for the plane. Other people may want something they can hike in that is very technical.
For context, I am doing a rather large trip this summer which will mostly take place on trains. I will be hauling bags up and down stairs, in and out of overhead racks, and trying to make room in tiny hotels. So for me, my best travel pants have to pack up small (goodbye plush pants), look somewhat smart for wearing in the city, and be comfortable.
I got a little obsessive compulsive with this and DID THE RESEARCH. This included a lot of ChatGPT, Google and Reddit, chatting to people and observing.
Top Contenders:
Daydrift High-Rise Wide Leg Trouser by Lululemon - I already own these and always thought they’d be a great travel pant. They are super comfy, durable and can be dressed up or down. I just find the waist quite small and which it was the tiniest bit bigger.
Fine-Stretch Fabric Joggers from Simons - I had been eyeing the Performance Joggers from Vuori forever (also available at Simons!) when I spotted these dupes in shop. I’ve actually tried on the Vuori pair and they are very cropped. These aren’t exactly super structured, but for the price they’ve held up their shape much more than I expected. I don’t particularly love leggings if I’m not exercising and these are a great other option (with pockets!)
The Lodge Pant in Crepette by Aritzia - A client recently showed up in these pants to a shoot and I could tell right away they’d be a perfect travel pant. She confirmed they don’t wrinkle and can be dressed up or down. They must be a popular pant as they are available in about FOUR different fabric and multiple colours.
**Apparently the link to Aritzia is not working for many of you. I’ve tried to link again but am still getting feedback it’s not working. Please just head to the Artizia site and search for The Lodge Pant - sorry.
These were recommended by Leandra Medine Cohen - I don’t know much about Spanx or these pants but when she said they’re good for the gym and going out that ticked a couple boxes (not sure how small they fold up and the wash cycle might be too finicky if you are going for a long trip).
As you can imagine, once my algorithm picked this up I was pushed all sorts of brands with travel clothes including: Unbound Merino (Canadian!), Pact, Ruti, NinePine, etc. Other brands coming up frequently in the Reddit threads include Uniqlo, and Quince. Athleta Brooklyn pant was recommended over and over, but Athleta will not accept payment on a credit card with a Quebec address so… screw them.
Any recommendations?

A Couple Restaurants to Try
Pas de Probleme - 4754 Notre-Dame, St-Henri
I wanted to grab a quick lunch and saw this spot with a parking spot outside. I was surprised to step into a very aesthetic, concrete (I assume it’s polished concrete?) forward Jamaican café. I grabbed a patty, jerk chicken bowl and a huge cookie. Everything was great and I’d definitely go back.
Yans Deli - 5345 Ferrier Street
This is a brighter, lighter version of a classic deli. We tried the massive fish and meat platters so we could get a little taste of everything and it was all very good. They offer a wide variety of all the classics slightly elevated.
Wuthering Heights by Charli XCX
Have you read Wuthering Heights? It’s seriously messed up and disturbing and I did not enjoy it. And now we have a movie with Jacob Elordi and Margo Robbie which looks cinematically stunning but not sure I’m putting it in my “to watch” list (lmk if it’s any good!). However, I am digging the Charli XCX soundtrack! I’m already a Charli XCX fan (Sympathy is a Knife is my fave - granted mostly while I’m running) so I was curious. Listening to this in the car, my husband pointed out that this fell into a very Michelle category of music - intense stressful dramatic music is my fave (Radiohead, Florence & the Machine… Sibelius) so naturally I’m into it. If you’re looking for something a bit more chill try Geese - the guys voice takes a while to get into it but I like it for a shift in tone. I think I’ve already talked about Rosalia’s latest album Lux, but that’s definitely another to check out if you like stressful female vocalists (or just good, interesting music!)
And…
Have you seen the documentary She Looks Like Me? Honestly, it’s crazy - you can’t even imagine. Once, I was in the audience of The Jerry Springer Show (it was wild) and someone knew someone who was a producer there and he also said the wildest stories are the ones that are true…
