Totes (again), New Restos, Getting Crafty
Let's do it!
Baskhour - Local Candles, Bags and More
I love unique, fun and surprising gifts that are above all locally made. I discovered Baskhour when I visited the Vietnamese night market Cho Dêm this summer. They have a super unique range of candles like Soleil, Cereal, Yuzu and White Rabbit. I like the idea of Temple, a scent that I’m sure will bring me back all sorts of nostalgia for my time in S-E Asia. Not sure - choose a discovery box. They also have the best tote bags at a super reasonable cost like I’m Fine or Too Busy Livin’.
Restaurants, etc. Openings of Note (aka the ones I stumbled upon)
I am but one lady, not a team, so I cannot go to each of these locations, make videos, etc. but I think it’s always nice to know of new places. And frankly, from my surveys it’s why most of you are here!
Renzo Sandwich - super hip sandwich place in the Mile-End
Dalmata Gelato - opened by Danny Smiles and his team. Apparently it’s AMAZING. If you’re really hunger Renzo followed by Dalmata would be a killer combo.
Bar Luz - From the group that owns Alma, a new bar inspired by my fave Mexico City.
Miette Sandwicherie - yes, from the Miette Boulangerie people, has opened in the old Rustique on Notre-Dame! Very exciting and I can’t wait to go. (Now construction just has to end so we can get to it)
Donato Gelato next to Myriade on Victoria in Westmount is now open! D' Burger and Spuntino look like they will be opening imminently.
I don’t know if these places are new or not, but some of the other places I’m looking forward to try:
Pasta Pooks - Italian in Little Italy (no reservations)
Dunya - Falafel and Shawarma
Pizza Frankies - ‘secret’ pizza spot in Lachine - I believe you can only order ahead.
LMK if there are other places I should add/promote!
New/Old Craft for the fall
I spent quite a bit of time at my parents cabin this summer, and I believe for any long term stay where you know the weather is 50/50 you need a project. In the past it was learning Spanish, or puzzles, books are always there, ice cream, specific baking projects, learning to dock the boat (hard), gutting fish (harder)… you get the idea.
I was seeing all these (very expensive) beaded necklaces everywhere this summer and thought it could be a fun project. And it was! I went to Bead It in Westmount first where she gave me a few pointers. This is definitely your stop for higher end stones. I then headed to Club Bead in St-Michel which has a massive selection of beads, clasps, fixtures, charms, and more.
The initial cost for creating bead necklaces is quite high, I’ll admit (wire, supplies, pliers, etc.) but once you are rolling you can create quite a few necklaces. While I was visiting my parents, we also stopped at Michael’s which had a good selection as well.
These were some of the necklaces we used as inspiration: red & blue, we made a ton of these to hang random charms from, and lots of these for layering (we got these beads from Etsy).
I wanted to let you guys know that my Christmas mini sessions are now live and if you book before Sept 10th you get an additional 2 images worth $50. I also have a couple spots open (at the time of writing) for my Old Montreal minis. You can see more info on my minis here. To book Old Montreal email me. To book Christmas Minis and see decor click here. Thank you!
So I built this newsletter over the summer and yes, some of it is old but I included it all anyways because why not.
No surprise to many that I really love London (I lived there twice for a total of about 5 years. I know many go there to travel and I discovered this cool app called WanderBe that basically just tells you the cool stuff about London as you wander around.
If you are in the market for a tote with a hardcore local reference, these are cute and a very deep dive into Quebecois. I had to ask my husband to translate one!
Did you know that Montreal Airport has a drop off area so that if the highway on ramp is full there is another option? I had no idea, but a friend let me know. Your Uber or Taxi driver might also not know, so you may need to direct them. See more info here. They also have a planner here. If you see you can’t even get on the ramp, choose this option (during certain times only).
A new show by Lena Dunham set in London.
I was visiting a museum and they had a selection of speculums on display (this was a rural town museum) - honestly it looked like it should be from the medieval age but they looked prrreettty much like they do today. Alas, a new speculum is being designed (finally!)
Definitely, not Canadian, but most definitely small business and unique - this Brooklyn jewelry shop popular with the Gen Z’ers (and me - to look at, at least)
Looking for book reccs? Dua Lipa has a book club (yes, Dua Lipa) and her picks are pretty amazing. I’ve read quite a few and they were all very interesting (even Lincoln in the Bardo which I did not love - it was still interesting). You can see her book club here and past picks here.
WHOOPS - ALMOST DONE: Please remember that while you may receive Three Good Things to Know as an e-mail, all issues of the newsletter are available in the archive.
ALSO, HMMM: Do you follow me on Instagram? I’d love to see you there.
LASTLY - PRETTY PLEASE: It would mean the world to me if you shared 3 Good Things with friends and family. You can do so using the buttons below.
OKAY JUST JOKING REALLY LAST BUT REALLY IMPORTANT: Please don’t be shy to contribute. This could be a book you read, restaurant recommendation, event or someone really awesome I should get in touch with so they can share their knowledge or promote their business.
Michelle Little is a photographer who specializes in family, maternity, newborn, headshots and boudoir. I offer studio, in-home and outdoor photography. You can see her website here and get in touch here.
I also have an insanely popular photography newsletter you can sign up to here for news, mini session announcements and more. Once a year I giveaway a free studio session to a lucky subscriber (maybe that’s why it’s insanely popular?)
