Non-Alcoholic Options
I do a lot of running and drinking affects me way more than it should (dead legs) so most days I abstain. But I still want to drink something special! Here are a few options - most are local and most recommended by my friend Minna (thank you Minna!)
Fin Soda - I got mine at the shop with all the dried goods at Atwater Market (IYKYK)
Zamalek - A very drinkable alternative. I got mine at Le Petit Dep which is not super practical for bulk purchase - I’m sure you can find it elsewhere.
San Pellegrino - Not very original, but certainly much easier to find and at a lower price point. I go for the sugar free options.
Micro-Itinerary: Pointe-a-Calliere & Old Montreal
A full day out would be a lot for me and my kids - even if they are older kids. Even when we are travelling we often only head out in the morning and spend the afternoon relaxing.
I thought it would be fun to come up with micro-itineraries. Itineraries that you can bite into without huge devotion. I don’t know everywhere and everything, so if you’d like to suggest an itinerary PLEASE get in touch. You’re opinion has value!
Micro-Itinerary:

-Head to the Pointe-a-Calliere exhibit. Get there early so you can score parking and beat the crowds (or take public transit). They have a new exhibit about Knights that’s really impressive and includes interactive components. Afterwards, head to the Pirate Ship which my kids still go crazy over (part of your ticket). Tip: Check opening times and buy in advance if you plan to arrive at opening.
-Head out to lunch. We went to Ciccio’s for sandwiches, but there’s literally one table or bar stools which may not be great for little ones. Old Montreal is kind of a mess with construction, so if you have a stroller you might want to choose a terrace along de la Commune vs St-Paul which has narrow sidewalks.
-If you still have energy, head across the street to the Grand Quay of Montreal which has an outdoor area that the kids can run around with pretty views of Habitat 67, the river and boats.
Father’s Day Gifts
Here are a few gift ideas!
Dinner at his fave restaurant
A good book
Refresh his basics with clothing from a local company
Special meats or fish for a BBQ
A shirt of you
A card (bought or homemade) with beautiful words
A donation to his favourite charity
I have never seen Pulp in concert but their 1995 album Different Class is definitely a fave, even if it’s not really on rotation these days. They’ve now come back with their first album in 24 years (!) and as at the time I’ve written they’ve released two bangers I am in love with. Fingers crossed they’ll be going on tour and I’ll finally get to see them.
Everything about this new immersive experience seems like a nightmare to me - I guess it’s for people with no active imagination and who don’t fly a lot? Alternative: Just take a flight to Newark… (jkjkjkjk)
If you need a laugh listen to this podcast episode.
If you’re looking for a good movie for older kids, we liked Fountain of Youth. It’s a cross between National Treasure and Indiana Jones. There isn’t any swear or sexy times, but there is a lot of guns, shooting and stabbing (they don’t show stab wounds, gore or blood except the end which isn’t gory). You might be shouting at the screen ‘why do you have your kid with you!!’ though…
If you want to try the viral Dubai chocolate, Bureau en Gros on Sherbrooke in Westmount/NDG is now selling bars for $20. I didn’t try it so have no idea how it is.
I don’t know whether I should laugh or be scared watching this movie.
The Devil Wears Prada is BAAACK with a sequel (May 2026 - don’t get too excited)
Lena Dunham also has a new show!
Just a reminder I have an ice cream map so if you are out and about and what ice cream you can just open it up and see your nearest shop! Let me know if I need to add any.
Selfish Swimwear is a locally made swimwear brand that (now ?) has a store in Little Italy. - Thanks Heather!
June Swimwear, another local brand, will be hosting a pop up shop at VerdunLuv in… June!
Advice no one is here for: I listen to a lot of podcasts and what I’ve picked up is that even already super successful people ask for the opportunities they want. A simple ‘hey I’m down to collaborate one day’ is all it takes. Next time there’s something you’re interested in doing, just let *the people* know. If they don’t know, they won’t ask.
WHOOPS - ALMOST DONE: Please remember that while you may receive Three Good Things to Know as an e-mail, all issues of the newsletter are available in the archive.
ALSO, HMMM: Do you follow me on Instagram? I’d love to see you there.
LASTLY - PRETTY PLEASE: It would mean the world to me if you shared 3 Good Things with friends and family. You can do so using the buttons below.
OKAY JUST JOKING REALLY LAST BUT REALLY IMPORTANT: Please don’t be shy to contribute. This could be a book you read, restaurant recommendation, event or someone really awesome I should get in touch with so they can share their knowledge or promote their business.
