Local Food, Travel Hacks and Ice Cream
Let's Do This
Try Somewhere New - LUNCH edition (+ sweets)
Dobe & Andy - Chinatown. Don’t let the somewhat relaxed interior throw you off - this is great Chinese BBQ that our family all enjoyed. Star dish was the BBQ pork. I also think they are opening up in the Time Out Market.
Naguara - Monkland Village. Solid Venezuelan food in a casual atmosphere. Most divisive dish was the guava tequeños - some of us loved them, some of us not so much.
Knafé Stop - Concordia Ghetto - This teeny tiny shop serves one thing - knafé. This is a warm cheese, syrup and pastry dessert/pie. They serve a version with vermicelli or without and it is made on order so expect to wait a bit before getting your food.
Daddy Roll -Little Italy. Cinnamon buns must be a trend, because in the same week I also tried Rolly’s in the Concordia Ghetto which I’ve talked about before and was excellent. A smaller selection than Rolly’s but still very good and they also offer other things besides cinnamon buns. There’s also a third called Royal Ginette which I have on my list.
Travel Hack - Power Up
Ok, I might be struggling a bit with ideas for this newsletter if I’m telling you about this, but I thought my entire breakdown on travel pants was lame and it was probably the one thing that most people have talked to me about.
For families travelling with multiple devices, the entire plug and powering situation can be a bit annoying. When you have to use a converter it because even more annoying because each person is responsible for their own plug AND remembering the converter.
This Donut Power Strip bank solves so many issues - it’s a teeny tiny power bank plus it comes with an international converter. You just need to make sure that anything you are plugging in can accept higher voltage, as it is NOT a voltage converter. Please note that this is the North American version. There is a different rest of world version called a Bagel Power Strip.
Bonus: If you are travelling with your power toothbrush the charger is likely NOT up to 240W. You can buy one that is on Amazon (sorry) for around $10. Saves carrying a heavy voltage converter. And yes, I bring my power toothbrush everywhere.
Ice Cream
Because I worked so hard on it, and ice cream season is coming up - I leave you with my Montreal Ice Cream Map. Use it wisely. Also, I’m not perfect - places can move/hours can change/product can change. Please check the listings before trekking across town.
My, I don’t think so honey, moment… (borrowed from the podcast Las Culturistas)
I’ve been to my fair share of concerts in my life and especially over the last couple months. I just want to say - if you are taking the time to show up to any performance in a public space - please stop talking. Why are you there if you only talk throughout the entire performance? Honestly, it’s a complete lack of respect for the performers, and your fellow audience. After I recently asked some fellow parents (!) at a school performance if they could restrain from loudly talking for the 2 minutes it took for a song to be performed, I was told if I didn’t like it I could sit elsewhere. Honestly, grow up and get some respect. Also - the KIDS and many times the performers in professional productions can you see you! You aren’t invisible!
If you are into classical music, or want to dip your toe, Orchestre MTL is playing a couple of real bangers this Thursday.
I’m only taking 4 tank tops on my summer holiday this summer so I am crazy obsessive over finding the perfect one. It must feel like me, be easy to layer and will allow me to stay cool. I was super surprised and happy with these linen tops from Uniqlo. They just felt right as soon as I tried them on. I kind of panicked and got one in green (safe) and white (my preferred but would you travel with white?) so I’ll see what I end up going with. I’m sure they’ll wrinkle but I’m OK with it.
WHOOPS - ALMOST DONE: Please remember that while you may receive Three Good Things to Know as an e-mail, all issues of the newsletter are available in the archive.
ALSO, HMMM: Do you follow me on Instagram? I’d love to see you there.
LASTLY - PRETTY PLEASE: It would mean the world to me if you shared 3 Good Things with friends and family. You can do so using the buttons below.
OKAY JUST JOKING REALLY LAST BUT REALLY IMPORTANT: Please don’t be shy to contribute. This could be a book you read, restaurant recommendation, event or someone really awesome I should get in touch with so they can share their knowledge or promote their business.
