A few books I’ve read lately…
Run Towards the Danger by Sarah Polley - Sarah is so much more than the girl from Avonlea I remember from my youth. A smart, honest memoir that deals with trauma, illness and more.
Between Two Kingdoms by Suleika Jaouad - I learned a ton and would recommend to anyone interested in what it’s like to live and recover from serious illness. Her journey is harrowing and beautifully written.
All that Life Can Afford by Emily Everett - Definitely the beachiest read out of these three (the above two are easier reads but heavy topics). I read it after Mindy Kaling recommended it.
Atmosphere: A Love Story by Taylor Jenkins Reid will be ‘the’ book of the sumer. I haven’t read it yet but can’t wait!
My summer Montreal bucket list
-See a circus show as a family
-Finally visit Chateau Ramezay
-See this exhibit at the Planetarium (I’ve found the Planetarium is better for older kids)
-Visit Parc Frédéric-Back
-Bike to Parc René-Lévesque
-Head back to SOS Labyrinthe and make a day of it in Old Montreal
-Hike the Coaticook Gorge and eat some ice cream
-Get an Accès Montreal card for discounts to many activities
Travel Finds - The Info No One Asked For
I did a survey, and despite prob 1/3 of this newsletter being travel content it wasn't, popular but hey - this is my newsletter. A lot of us are travelling this summer and here are a few things I’ve found that I’m loving.
Instead of wearing your hat through the airport, trying to cram it in a suitcase, or clumsily carrying it around, this clip solves everything! I have a beautiful straw hat I bought from Boutique Unicorn years ago which I thought about taking with me this summer, but in the end I got a big sun hat from H&M that I can fold and pack with me.
I’m not a particularly strong fan of the very trendy raffia bags at the moment. They just aren’t really me, but I know they are very pretty. I am trying not to dive into trends that are beautiful, but aren’t really my style. But if you’re looking for one this summer, this one is huge. Buy in-store to avoid duty if you buy online (they had lots downtown).
Friendly reminders! If you have school age children, I recommend:
-Getting school supplies now before you are in a panic at the end of the summer.
-Order those labels too! Many parents are surprised that EVERY PENCIL and every item must be labeled.
-Lastly, kids have to wear a uniform? Do that uniform fitting NOW before line ups are out the door this fall.
Should we count ourselves lucky that we experience a free dry cold plunge most of the year?
No wonder there’s always a line up.
I’m always into getting my kids exposed to culture and this is an easy introduction.
Try a Symphony under the sky this summer.
Sorry about the random stock images…. I’ll get back to it next fall.
This will be my last newsletter for a while. I generally take the summer off, but I may put something out depending on time/how I feel. It’s been ONE YEAR since I’ve been doing this and I’ve received a ton of nice feedback - so thank you!
If you’d like to contribute for this fall please let me know!
WHOOPS - ALMOST DONE: Please remember that while you may receive Three Good Things to Know as an e-mail, all issues of the newsletter are available in the archive.
ALSO, HMMM: Do you follow me on Instagram? I’d love to see you there.
LASTLY - PRETTY PLEASE: It would mean the world to me if you shared 3 Good Things with friends and family. You can do so using the buttons below.
OKAY JUST JOKING REALLY LAST BUT REALLY IMPORTANT: Please don’t be shy to contribute. This could be a book you read, restaurant recommendation, event or someone really awesome I should get in touch with so they can share their knowledge or promote their business.
Michelle Little is a photographer who specializes in family, maternity, newborn, headshots and boudoir. I offer studio, in-home and outdoor photography. You can see her website here and get in touch here.
I also have an insanely popular photography newsletter you can sign up to here for news, mini session announcements and more. Once a year I giveaway a free studio session to a lucky subscriber (maybe that’s why it’s insanely popular?)
